On May 29, 2020, GAC Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. (GAC Honda), a joint venture company of GAC Group, announced that it will absorb its wholly owned subsidiary, Honda Automobile (China), Co., Ltd., effective from April 1, 2020.
As a result of this merger, Honda Automobile (China) will be renamed as the Guangzhou Development District Factory of GAC Honda, with a production capacity of 50,000 units / year. The original two major businesses of production and export of vehicles and global KD parts supply will be retained, and domestic models will be put into production. This move will improve the resource utilization rate and operating efficiency of GAC Honda, expand the company's production capacity, and create a win-win situation for all parties. It will also enable GAC Honda, a joint venture with three vehicle production lines and an engine plant in Huangpu and Zengcheng, to embrace four lines for vehicle production.
Honda Automobile (China) was established on September 8, 2003 as China’s first automobile production plant dedicated exclusively for export. Honda Automobile (China) was made a wholly owned subsidiary in 2018, and now will be absorbed by GAC Honda.
